Welcome Home

“I can’t see them, no I can’t. I have not been able to for weeks and who knows when I’ll be able to see my girls again. I….I, really don’t like the place where the judge has asked me to keep them. I feel like they take advantage of them! All they do is clean and Maria, she is the chubbier one, but ever since she entered that foster home with her sister, she began losing weight every day! She is only nine, there is no reason why she should be losing weight every day. She is now thinner than her sister.”

“Well Teresa, I promise you that if you do what we ask, you should have your girls by your birthday.” One of the Missionaries said.

“No, that won’t happen because I need to have a hearing before I can see them again and to top that off, their father has threaten to take them away if they do come out. Ough! why are they even there? I am a good Mother…”

“I know Teresa, you are, but as for right now, you need to take care of your five boys and your household. Please be strong. Things will work out the way they need to, but you have to trust on The Lord.” The Jr. Companion said.

“I have. I have done all the things which you two have asked me to do.”

“Yes, yes you have and you also have mentioned how much of Heavenly Father’s hands you have been able to witness these past few days. On Monday, you were able work and get some extra money for food. You also mentioned how you were lost and did not have any money to come home the other day, so you called one of the brothers from the Church without knowing if he could help and what happened? What happened? He picked you up and brought you home, he just so happened to know where you were.”

“Yes, well I have been blessed with many more things as well. I, despite of all that is happening with my twins, have been happier since I have met you two.”

“We know, but why?”

“Because I have done what you have asked me to do.”

“No, not at all, it is because you have done what Heavenly Father has asked you to do. You see Teresa, because of your scripture reading, coming to Church and simply being obedient to God’s commandments, you have been able to experience many wonderful blessing and even happiness which you mention you have not had in a long time. It is your obedience that’s bringing you happiness.”

“Now, you know that you need to be baptized and you know that this is what Heavenly Father wants you to do. What have you against being baptized?”

“Nothing really, I just wanted my girls to be there.”

“Teresa, I promise that if you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptize by the right Priesthood authority of God, you will have your girls before any trial, and not only that but they will also be baptized! You will have what you want, but you have to make a covenant with God first. So, will you be baptized a month earlier than the date which we had planned.”

“…..Yes… Yes I will.”

Teresa was a lonely mother of two sets of twins, two boys and two girls, plus she had three other kids from different fathers. She took care of all of them except one who did not live with her. Her twin girls were taken from her by the authorities and put in a place where the girls were not being taken care of they way they should. After losing her girls she finally had it and decided to change her life around.

The promise made by her to the Missionaries was kept. After she got baptized her girls returned home a few days later. The trial never happened and her girls ended up getting baptized two weeks before the actual date of the original hearing in which the judge would have told Teresa if her girls were ever to return home.

Obedience to the gospel will alway prevail with happiness and blessings from a loving Heavenly Father. You, see this was the second time Missionaries knocked at Teresa’s door, and the second time she had been given a chance to change. She needed to Choose the Lord first before anything else played out. It had been her choices which got her and family in trouble to begin with and it was also her, who begged God for help, and He brought it.

Change cannot be a phase, it needs to come with a permanent desire to be better with the diligence and mindset to plan out your future with a purpose. You need goals and as President Monson teaches

“Goal reflect the desires of your heart.”

Therefore if you want to change with the Lord, do so with ” all your heart, might, mind and strength.” (D&C4:3) Change by making a covenant with Him or keep the covenants you already have. The gospel will never be a “grab -n-go” kind of lifestyle because you will always find your self-hungry for something better which really is not there. In Teresa’s case, she did not only see the blessings from heaven for own life, but for her family and her to daughters.

She will never forget those days because she chose to change with her heart and with her soul. Regardless of what happens later in her life she will remember the great feelings she experienced during those troubling times, and she will remember the sweet spirit testifying to her that she was on the right path.
